"Conversations With My Dummy" is unending zaniness with roots in old time radio. It features original comedy routines, funny songs, sound effects, voice characterizations and ventriloquism (on his podcast Steve works on the honor system) As a radio show it aired for over 30 years on commercial and public radio stations around the country. His musical guests include well known musicians and authors such as John Sebastian, Peter Schickele, Tom Paxton, Christine Lavin and Daniel Pinkwater. Charney also features comedy recordings and subjects his listeners to original songs on guitar and piano.
Because Steve already has a cult following, his goal is to tap into these listeners and then broaden his base as the podcast continues to gather steam.

His radio show "Knock On Wood" (which Conversations with my Dummy is based on) was profiled in the New Yorker magazine. He also has performed his stage show of magic, music and ventriloquism around the world. He's written dozens of songs for Disney and Jim Henson, has authored 25 books and has numerous CD's and DVD's. His Youtube channel has close to 2 million hits and a thousand subscribers.
